Inspiration

The inspiration for the animation “Colors” stemmed from Angela M. Parker’s PhD dissertation work on translating a series of poems into contemporary dance. She uses the colors represented in the poems, specifically the perceived movement of them to achieve this endeavor.

For this project we are using the choreography of the poem “To the boy Elis” by George Trakl. In this poem there are three dominant colors, crystal, blue, and black. The crystal color is used to describe Ellis, that takes form as a dead or unborn child. The black color is used to  describe children who live long enough to become adults. The characteristic movement of the color black is a trembling that progresses to a continued breaking. In the other had blue describes water or a “gentler, wild animal”, which reflects a more smooth a gentle movement.
